Wear Lingerie on That Fits Your Body Type
- Find lingerie stores that specialize in plus or petite undergarments if you think you might need those size alterations. Generic department stores often don’t carry those sizes, and may limit your selection considerably.

-
Step 2
Measure your body using measuring tape. In many cases, lingerie stores will have size charts that allow you to find the appropriate sizes using the size in inches around your bust and your hips. Just make sure that you measure the widest distance to get the most accurate measurements.
-
Step 3
Determine your body style. You might be pear-shaped, apple-shaped, boyish, hourglass or triangle. Knowing this will help you select lingerie that will flatter your body type and accentuate your best features.
-
Step 4
Ask a sales clerk at the lingerie shop to assist you in selecting the appropriate undergarments. They are usually educated in assisting customers with finding the most flattering pieces, and you won’t be stuck making the decision on your own.
-
Step 5
Try on several different styles of lingerie to determine which fits your body type best. Short lengths or long lengths? Plunging necklines or scoop-necks? Flared or fitted at the hem?
-
Step 6
Choose lingerie that makes you feel comfortable regardless of your body type. If you prefer to be covered up more, go for pieces that drape down to your knees or have sleeves to cover your upper arms.
-
Step 7
Try on new pieces that you might not usually be interested in. They may just work for you!
-
Try on lingerie at the store in a dressing room with a full-length mirror. Otherwise, you won’t get the full effect.
-
Look at several different stores before choosing lingerie. Your body type might be better suited to one line than another.
-
Avoid looking at fashion magazines as inspiration. Most women have body shapes that differ widely from those of underwear models, and you’ll just get depressed when you can’t achieve the same “look”.
